Education

HIV/AIDS Awareness Day coordinated with the purpose of spreading information and action towards education, testing, prevention, community involvement, and treatment in black communities. There are different days set aside for just about everybody, days to help them find ways to get tested, to get informed. The days start from February 1 and reach all the way to December 1. African Americans are seen as the most affected, so there are many things there to help them.

Lyrics from Salt n Pepa song - Let's Talk About AIDS

"Yo let's talk about aids (go on) to the unconcerned and uninformed
You think you can't get it? Well you're wrong
Don't dismiss, this, or blacklist the topic
That ain't gonna stop it
Now if you go about it right you just might save your life
Don't be uptight, come join the fight
We're gonna tell you how you can get it and how you won't
All of the do's and all of the don't's
I got some news for you so listen, please
It's not a black, white, or gay disease
Are you ready, Pep? Yeah, I'm set
All right then, come on, bet"

In the African American community, most times the music industry is a teacher or somewhere to get a lesson from. A lot of times, rappers, singers, etc. give accounts of thing that they dealt with when they were poorer and how that is different considering that they have now have money and acquire better medical attention. During the 1990s, the African American music community took a major interest in the AIDS/HIV epidemic and started to release music in order to help African Americans had important it is to get tested and also, use protection. For example, Salt n Pepa put an interesting twist on their song Let's Talk About Sex as a medium to educate their fans about AIDS.
